We Help At-Risk Youth and Young Adults Build Better Futures
Sheila dropped out of school at age 13, and never made it back. But when she turned 25, she decided that getting her GED would create more job opportunities for herself. At Multi-Service Center, Sheila found the resources and support she needed to get her GED and start college. "I thought I was just getting my GED, but I was opening doors for my future," she said.
With one-on-one support and proven resources, our youth programs help young people turn their lives around and take the critical steps toward a self-sufficient future.
We Offer the Following Programs:
Workforce Investment Act (WIA) for Out-of-School Youth
This program serves motivated dropouts who are eager to succeed in their educational and employment goals. We assist them by helping them attain their GED or high school completion, providing them with strong job search skills and tools to help find paths of employment. LEAP
This program helps youth in detention, on probation or on parole with GED classes and other educational support, case management, paid internships and other support services. More than 50 youth, ages 14 to 21, are currently being served in this program. Referral only through Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration or King County Superior Court.
Skill Link
This new program is geared to young people, ages 18 to 24, who may or may not have their GED, but still struggle with low literacy or math skills that prevent them from qualifying for college entry. In partnership with Highline Community College, Solid Ground and Seattle-King County Workforce Development Council, Skill Link offers participants case management, intensive tutoring, job skills, and life skills to help them increase their readiness for college and 100-level classes. This pilot project is funded by the Seattle Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and SkillUp. We are currently recruiting for this program.
